Jigsaw Puzzles - Search & Find
Two activities in one box. Kids assemble the puzzle, then hunt for 40+ hidden objects in the artwork - which is why search-and-find puzzles last 90 minutes when most kids' puzzles last 30.

9Two Activities in One Puzzle Box
A regular puzzle ends when the last piece goes in.
A search-and-find puzzle is just getting started at that point. Once the puzzle is assembled, kids hunt for 40 or more hidden objects scattered through the artwork - shown in the border, hidden in the scene. The puzzle becomes the playing surface for round two.
Total time on a single box runs closer to 90 minutes than 30, which is why these are a strong pick for rainy weekends, post-bedtime quiet hours, and sleepovers where one kid finishes the puzzle faster than the others.
How the Hidden-Object Game Works
The setup is consistent across the line.
The puzzle box artwork shows the main scene plus a border of small icons - a list of items the kids will need to find once the puzzle is built. After assembly, kids work through the border list, locating each item somewhere in the main illustration.
A 64-piece search-and-find typically hides 40+ items. The hunt portion takes 15 to 30 minutes the first time, faster on a repeat once kids remember where things were.
Search and Find Sizes and Ages
Two main formats in the line:
- 64 pieces - the standard kids' size, for ages 4 and up. Finishes at about 23 x 15.5 inches, which is a generously sized scene for the hidden-object hunt.
- 500 pieces - family-sized search-and-find puzzles, for ages 8 and up. Bigger artwork, more hidden items, longer total session.
The 500-piece versions are part of the Family Puzzles line. The 64-piece versions sit in the wider Jigsaw Puzzles for Kids catalog.
Why the Format Holds Up to Repeat Play
A standard puzzle gets put together once, maybe twice, before kids ask for a new one. Search-and-find puzzles last longer for two reasons.
The hunt resets every time. Even if a kid remembers some of the hidden items, finding all 40+ from memory is harder than they expect. Most kids miss a few on every replay.
The artwork rewards close looking. Search-and-find scenes are designed to be visually busy - market squares, train stations, beach scenes, woodland villages. Kids notice new things in the illustration each time, separate from the official find list.
Search and Find Themes Kids Like Best
Busy environments work best for the format. Markets, holiday scenes, train stations, beaches, animal villages.
Single-subject artwork doesn't suit the format because there isn't enough scene to hide things in. Search-and-find scenes are almost always themed environments with crowds of characters and objects, since the format needs visual density to work.
Holiday-themed search-and-finds (Christmas markets, winter chalets, Halloween scenes) are especially common because the busy seasonal artwork hides items naturally.
What Comes in the Box
What's inside each box:
- The puzzle pieces, made from greyboard with 90% recycled paper
- A printed list of items to find, usually shown on the border of the box and the artwork itself
- A separate fact card or scavenger sheet on some scenes, for kids who like to track their finds methodically
What These Puzzles Build in Kids
A practical list of skills:
- Observation - the core mechanic. Kids train their eyes to scan a busy scene for specific items.
- Sustained attention - the hunt takes longer than most other puzzle activities, so kids practice maintaining focus past the assembly stage.
- Pattern recognition - finding hidden items requires distinguishing the target shape from a crowded background.
- Visual memory - on repeat plays, kids reference what they remember from earlier rounds.
